First off, a little GRRRR: I forgot my flash drive today, hence cannot get half the things done I was going to do. However, it's almost time to go home already, so meh. I did manage to start the next scene in my fic (just skipping ahead), so I still got a little progress.

Meanwhile....

The book my story is in, Bad-Ass Faeries? Danielle is promoting it at FaerieCon, and I'm wibbling about whether I should go.

Pros:

I can get air tickets for about $150 round trip - direct flights, even
Registration is open and not expensive
I'd potentially hook up with a lot of LJ and other friends, like [livejournal.com profile] moony, [livejournal.com profile] awelkin, [livejournal.com profile] blpurdom, [livejournal.com profile] here_be_dragons and maybe others?
It would be very good to be there to help promote the book

Cons:

I have no clue how to get from the airport to the convention center
I don't have anywhere to stay (and no offers, yet, for crash or sharing a hotel room)
Even though so far the tickets are supercheap, I really shouldn't be spending any unnecessary money, because bills like whoah.

So, wibble.

Also, I have this credit card, and I had mondo points on it, and I was planning to cash in this insane number of points to get $250 worth of *gift cards* which I was going to use at Amazon to buy an iPod. But then two things happened. 1. I found that they had changed things around a little and it was actually more cost-effective to cash in slightly *fewer* points for the same amount of $ in cash, instead of gift cards. 2. I have bills like whoah.

So instead I cased in the fewer points and now have the money. But that changes things, because now it's *money* and not an Amazon GC. So I'm trying to decide what to do with this check I received. The *responsible* thing is to put it on my bills. The slightly longer-term planning says to put it into the savings for the car I must inevitably buy next year (if not sooner, please gods, not sooner). But.... new toy! Oh, well.

In honour of these two rather troubling decisions I must make, I present to you:

I wanted to go to FaerieCon but alas! I will be in Australia then! :/

You should go, though.

Getting from the airport to the convention center is easy. Just follow the signs at the airport for the train (which costs $5.50), then just stay on the train until you get to the Market East Station (after 30th, there's Suburban Station and then Market East) and the PA Convention Center is right behind the station, pretty much. If you go up the stairs that take you to 11th Street and turn right you can't miss it. Another plus is that the Center is smack in the middle of Chinatown, which is also behind the train station/mall (the station is adjacent to the mall) so there's lot's of good and cheap food nearby.

Ack! We threw out our futon, so the only overnight guests we've had recently have been Rachel's friends for sleepovers, using the couch cushions and sleeping bags. ;)

Well, you have a place to stay, if you decide to come . . . we're about 20 minutes outside the city center (Conshohocken, if you want to see it on the map), but we're RIGHT on the train line, plus I'm happy to provide transportation if needed (I'll pick you up at the airport, etc). And I might go to the convention, too. If you came to stay, I'd at least go to parts of it, I'm sure. And it would be FANTASTIC to see you! And K said it's fine for you to stay. We don't have tons of room, but you will have a bed in which to sleep. :)

You should TOTALLY come! :)

Ooh! And Holly Black is going to be there? Connor and I both LOVE Spiderwick. I might even bring him for one day of the con - the first day is his birthday; that might be a fun treat for him. :)

I have no faerie icon, so a winged Robert Plant shall have to suffice. :D
