Title: Crossed Wires
Author:
gwendolyngrace
Prompt: Scott Carey (the Special Kid whom Gordon killed in “Hunted”), Layla Rourke (“Faith”), Rock Salt
Wordcount: 250
Rating: PG-13 (Gen)
Warnings: Animal Abuse
Summary: Gordon had a point about Special Class.
Disclaimer: Not mine. But in this case I don’t want them.
After Dean and Sam left, after Sue Ellen stroked out, the crowds fell away from Rev. Granger. Her mother sank further into bitterness. Though it hurt to leave, Layla had to move on. They’d stayed in Nebraska too long, anyway.
Online, she found a holistic clinic in Lafayette. She moved in tandem with a rough Indiana winter: lots of ice; just enough snow to keep the ground white and the roads slushy. She prayed every day to see spring.
Sam had given her Dean’s number. She never called.
~*~
Scott notices her the very first time she picks his line at Meijer’s. She’s blonde and pert and has a secret smile that Scott wants to wipe off her face immediately. He tries to send a zot of electricity through the counter as she signs her check. She never flinches.
Later, it occurs to him that perhaps the rock salt on the conveyor belt had absorbed the current.
She chooses his line every week, even if he’s busier than anyone else. She’ll let people out to go to other checkout lines while she waits for his. When he comments on it, she says, “You remind me of someone. I’m Layla.”
“Scott. Who do I remind you of?”
She smiles that damn infuriating smile and signs her check.
That night, he shocks a cat so full of volts that it fries, using only the power of his mind. He doesn’t know why, but he names the cat Layla before he kills it.

Date: 2008-03-14 01:57 pm (UTC)Sorry to harsh on your interpretation.... Uh. I mean. Yeah. Sure! Layla's, y'know, um, "special". Ahem. ;D
No, seriously, I didn't intend for this to be so icky, but Scott was seriously whacked out already when Gordon killed him, and he just...I don't really like his headspace.
