So, I had an interview this morning for a 5-month contract job. It's AA work, but in HR, which is a new field. Duties include posting jobs, calling applicants to screen them, scheduling interviews, supporting job fairs, etc.

It's 20 miles straight down 128 - actually, it's the exit before 93 and Rte 1 split from 95. So lots of wear-and-tear on the car. More gas.

But. Five months - which would get me through summer. I will need to call unemployment to figure out if that will disqualify me to reopen the claim if I don't have anything to move into afterward (and yes, I'd completely keep looking while I'm working, there's no way this is a temp-to-perm position).

Meh, it'd be a job. So tomorrow I have to go to the Stoughton office of the contracting agency to fill out paperwork and get drug-tested.

Meanwhile, because I was on the southside, I called my mechanic and went to Ashland to have him look at the car frame. As I suspected, there's nothing wrong. Just where the bumper's paint is scraped. And that can get fixed whenever the other insurance company gets around to assessing it.

From there, I drove back up to Framingham to go to Sprint. My phone has been reluctant to charge. As in, I have to shake it and try multiple times to plug it in. I figured, most likely, that the contacts were getting grimy and needed to be cleaned. But they needed my phone for 90 minutes because there was a line.

Moral: I should have brought my netbook!

I left the phone and went to amuse myself for a while until they had a chance to check the phone. I checked out the new Michael's (new location), went to Starbucks and had a coffee while I read a chapter of my book and copied out a line or two from my script (part of my memorization process). Then I jogged over to Container Store just to window shop. No travel sale yet. I was tempted by some clearance wrapping paper, but in the end I left it.

Back to Sprint - and of course, they had no trouble with the phone. They did give me a new charging cord (yay, free accessories!), and to be fair, when I plugged it into the car charger: no trouble. Started charging right away. They did mention cleaning the contacts, so if that really was the problem, then maybe it's fixed. (Crosses fingers)

Back home. My tights arrived, yay! (Needed different colour tights for "Singin'", and only had one pair that colour.)

Reported to Unemployment. Called another staffing agency that had emailed me in the meantime.

Exhausted now.

Two Things

1. I have the best heterosexual life partner ever (Christmas, and I suck - but I have new socks, books, all of Harper's Island on DVD, and a new rotary cutting board, ruler, and rotary cutter. Japanese garb will be EASY, yay!)

2. I am an idiot and left my phone at her house.

ETA: Okay, three things.

3. "Black Books" is teh funneh. OMG. Lost half a day and I'm sure I'll lose much of tomorrow watching over on IMDB.

Okay, so this week was absolutely CRAZY-busy. I logged 52.5 hours at work, including 12.5 in a single day, trying to finish all my chores before going to the ball, er, conference.

No IMAX for the movie (boo) but we have tickets (yay) for the rest.

[livejournal.com profile] rani23, you'll be happy to know that the ticket you can't use is already claimed by a staff member who needed one.

I've been to the bank, I paid my bills, I've done my laundry (except for ONE SOCK that was hiding until the load was done)... I'm 80% packed, though I suspect one bag is too heavy and may need some rearranging. Luckily, there is presently a lot of room in the other checked bag. Huzzah! I forced myself to sit down and think through what - exactly - I'll wear each day, which allowed me to cut back significantly on the "oh, I might want this" over-packing.

Astonishingly, I will definitely not need my rollerboard carry-on. (I also mailed a box of stuff Priority - 6 lbs. of stuff, in fact - and although it was expensive, it was less than the overweight charges would have been on the luggage.)

Today I have a hair appointment, then I'll go in to work to do a few things more easily accomplished without anyone around, and then I'll hit Target for the last few items I need. Apparently I lost my travel toothbrush on the Midrealm trip (and the toothbrush *cover*, which annoys me more than the toothbrush itself).

I also was apparently not SMRT about where I put the BART card from last time. Hey, I wonder if I made a note to myself in my LJ? Nah, I'm probably not that SMRT. But it wasn't in the three or four places I would have put it had I been wise. Oh, well.

Palm Pre update: I need to spend a little more quality time with the manual to better understand my notification and sound options. Missed a few phone calls yesterday because the phone was in the bedroom on the charger and I didn't hear it ring. But I also don't want noise overnight when I'm trying to sleep. Difficult to balance. Still, the apps are win, and while it's still not a perfect phone, I'm definitely feeling the love. (I discovered two new things about the actual voice phone features yesterday. Surprise!)

I'm pretty much down to my last nerve, but I'll fix that before the conference starts. I've put in a reservation for the cab for Tuesday morning (6:25 ACK), and will take out the trash and recycling Monday night even though pickup isn't until Thursday. I've got meals in the house to get me through the next couple days.

Three more episodes of SPN to watch to get through the 4th season. (Yes, I just watched Jump the Shark. Yes, I have thoughts, but no time to really express them.)

Still need to pack carry-ons and chargers and all the tech....

Sheesh. Final details galore!

(Oh, and was anyone reading [livejournal.com profile] hpalternity last night? Alice had the baby! SO MUCH FUN!)

Large and small.

Okay, first off: no, I did not watch Show. I did not watch Pushing Daisies. I also didn't watch Bones. I watched "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" on HBO (and missed half of it because of my father!) and liked what I saw. It's charming. And Anika Noni Rose is HILARIOUS.

Then I tried watching some of the "Highlander" marathon until I remembered that the final ER was on, so I switched to that about 20 minutes in. OMG, Ernest Borgnine! I thought he was dead. Yay.

And I cried. And I approved of the ending.

So, I am still way behind on SPN. Meh.

CELL PHONE WOE! )

There were wild turkeys in the lot behind our building today! I have pictures; just no USB cable to upload them. Two cocks (roosters? heh, I said cock) and a few hens (3? 4? I fail at counting).

Okay, so the other decision I can't make is on Amazon:

Vote for your Favorite Sesame Street Clip for the 40th anniversary DVD.

There are ten clips:

Aligator King (the number 7)
Bert & Ernie (the one where Ernie has tied string to his fingers to remind him - not as classic as the banana, sadly)
King of Eight (Good grief, it's princess number 9)
the Martian Beauty Song (she doesn't like shoppin' cause she doesn't like hoppin')
"What's the Name of That Song?" (YAY JOE RAPOSO and JEFF MOSS)
Pinball Animation (1-2-3-FOUR-5-6-7-8-NINE-10-11-12)
Caribbean Amphibean (he likes to hop in the tropical sea! A frog in the coconut tree)
Big Bird singing about the number 4 (cute number but nothing special)
a Henson ball (which is an impressive Rube Goldberg machine, but otherwise kinda boring)
Elmo's "debut" (which was a bit of a tap-dance routine featuring pretty crappy greenscreening - and therefore disqualified).

As much as I love the cuteness of the Alligator, the King of Eight, the Maritan Beauty, and the Caribbean Amphibean, and as much as I would hate not to see another Raposo/Moss song be highlighted, I think it has to be the Pinball Animation - because ANYONE who's ever seen Sesame Street can sing that and it sorta symbolizes everything about Sesame Street's goal to teach counting and basic skills.

But oh, I love those other clips. You should go vote!

I should do some freaking work today....
