What's up....
Sep. 15th, 2004 05:27 pmThe Good:
I have a three-week temp assignment beginning tomorrow (allowing for time off to go to Coronation)
I was cast in "Lost in Yonkers" (as Gert, which is okay)
I went shopping and didn't go overboard
I have lots of networking contacts I need to follow-up on
I talked to the representative of Kelly when I went out to Sepracor (the pharmaceutical company) to get my stuff, and she agreed that it was nothing I had done, but that it was all Tim being a yutz. She told me she had reported it to Sepracor's Human Resources department, but of course that doesn't mean much. In any event, at least she's not aware of anything specific that I did to warrant being fired and she agrees that it was dumb of him to do so.
The Bad:
No time for the things I want to do because I've got job hunting, now a job, lots of driving this weekend. I'll have to drive all the way home to Boston from Pittsburgh on Sunday (blech), and our read-through is that night, so I'll have to leave Pittsburgh relatively early (like by 10 am).
My computer is fux0red. Something happened a few days ago when I browsed a bad site. Now my Internet Explorer will not run (keeps crashing and creating "fatal errors"), my screen keeps "blipping" every minute or so, half the time the computer doesn't shut down correctly, *and* I'm suddenly getting pop-up ads when I never have before. Norton System Doctor finds nothing wrong and going to Microsoft and downloading all available security patches did not fix the problem. Wah.
Money. I'm running out rapidly.
The weird:
So I had auditioned last week for "The Music Man" and got a callback and from what I could see at the audition, I was the only Marion there, really. Others read okay and have nice voices, but they didn't have the range necessary for the role. Neverthless, you'll see it's Gert in "Lost In Yonkers" up there as my first New England role. That's because they cast the one person I thought might have been competition - had the director wanted to "go another way", which clearly he did. The weird part, though, is that they cast me as a "Gossip Lady" - the River City women who sing "Pick-a-little" and follow Eulalie around - and never called me to confirm I would accept it. As it happened, since I had lost the job *and* because their company is so far away (40 minutes 1-way), I was *not* prepared to accept. But I've never before been cast without getting a call to formally offer the role. Totally weird.
Then again, this production will feature the director as Harold, because they had no one audition, so...just as well, I'm thinking.
Gert will be fun.
etakyma is the Stage Manager and we anticipate that the company will be truly frightened of the timeshare we have on our brains.
Oh - also in the weird department, just an observation: How ironic is it that a commercial for Mississippi Gulf tourism aired for the first time *this week?*
Blah. Didn't they have any respect for the power of names? Ivan the Terrible, indeed. All those living on or near Gulf territory, be careful this week!
Anyway. Off to BMDL for Coronation this weekend. Possibly Rochester for Amber next weekend (have to confirm). Fun, fun, fun.
Anyone know people in Boston or vicinity who are hiring?
