Dad update

Sunday: Fever went down during the day; they took him for a Head CT for "mental status changes" - i.e., he was delirious Saturday because of the fever - and it was negative. But that didn't stop them from moving him to the MICU - or more accurately, the CCU (because that's where they had a bed). I saw him for about half an hour before getting on the road.

Monday: The fever spiked back up overnight. He had an episode of "urgency" overnight according to the nurse - but her take was that he woke up, knew he had to go to the bathroom, and did was you'd normally do - got out of bed. Her version was they got him settled back down. His version appears below. They placed a PICC line (a catheter used to provide IV fluids and other various things) and were going to do a liver biopsy, but according to today's report, that turned out to be a spinal tap instead.

Today: He had Bonnie call around 12:00. They moved him back out of the CCU - now he's on the 5th floor. Spinal tap was negative. Now they're thinking of doing the liver biopsy. He's still lucid, still feverish, still diarrhetic, still miserable. His version of the nighttime incident: He says he woke up and pressed the call button for a bedpan, and they didn't come to the bedside quickly enough. He got up to find the bathroom - UNHOOKING himself - which caused a lot of consternation. Apparently, they then restrained him - possibly with sedation, it's not clear. He says he got back into bed and then "woke up" later in restraints. Next came what he called the "compromise" - they assigned him a full-time male nurse (285 lbs.) who would hand him a bedpan if he needed it, but would restrain him if he tried to get up. Joy. Hey, there are *some* advantages to this being out of town thing.

Anyway, they moved him back to a regular floor, they still don't know anything, he's not worse, but he's not better, either. He said he was going to call his department and find out who's taking his classes, etc. - so that's good, anyway: he'll be able to direct them better than I could as to what does/doesn't need to be done.

Gwen update: Took an hour to shovel the driveway this morning - just my half. I came inside for a break before tackling the bottom, which was good, because it turns out I was inside just long enough for the plow to go by. I'm glad, in a way, that they plowed *before* I thought I was done shoveling and had changed for work.

Found a cleaner that has promised they'll make a deal on bulk cleaning! Yay! Will drop off Angel Street costumes tonight on the way to Mame.

My brain is mush. I'm really looking forward to a day to recharge. I think there might be a day in April when I can do that....
