I don't know how they did it

Seriously. I've ducked them - pretty much successfully - for basically (gulp) 20 years.
My high school found me.
I...really can't even explain how bitter my leave-taking was from my school. I am certain I did better there than I could have anywhere else, since it was possibly the only school in the area that would have given me the creative freedom I had there, but. I never fit in, had maybe 4 friends and have pretty much not kept in touch with *anyone* from school. I haven't been to a single reunion (not including Candlelight - which I went to 3 times while in college and really not since) and they sure as hell don't get any of my money. About the only thing I 'contribute' is the proceeds from whatever I spend at Target as part of their educational partner program.
I wear the ring, because hello, I spent 13 of my formative years in those walls. I can get behind the idea of my school, but the physical reality of it is too traumatic. I've spent a long time blocking out the parts of my past that I don't care to remember (not that it ever really goes away). I don't really want to go for a trip down Memory Lane. And toward the end of my time there, particularly, things went into a really, really bad slump (with the school, that is) and seriously screwed traditions that some of us had been waiting 4, 8, 12 years to be part of. Yeah, it was a long time ago and who cares? I don't want you to think I'm still cursing the day or anything. But the fact is that it soured my final weeks there, and that's had an effect still on how I view the school's performance compared to its mission.
(Although it was interesting because the young Senior who called me had a list of MIA alumni - some of whom didn't actually graduate but were students at one time or another - and I actually knew a thing or two about a couple of them - 15 years out of date information, mind you, but still. There was one name who, the minute she said it, I started laughing and said, "I have no idea; probably he's in jail." And she laughed and said, "You know, that's what everyone says about him.")
Oh, and Amy - you'll laugh. Guess what came in the mail yesterday? I'll give you a hint: You predicted I'd get one. No? Well, I can get that second potholder.
In other news, taxes are done, yay! I should get my refunds just in time for Gulf Wars.
However, US Air sucks. This is the second time now that I've booked travel and had it completely not go through. You know how you click the "Purchase" button and it tells you "We're processing your request; don't click this button again or you may buy it twice!" and you wait? Yeah. Well, apparently it didn't work. I was supposed to go to Mi-No-Hi this weekend, but no. No ticket, no confirmation, no transaction on my credit card - NOTHING. As if I never pushed the button. ARGH.
But. Coraline 3D was even more rockin' the second time, and Watchmen comes out soon. Gang, we may actually have to leave Gulf Wars to go to that again.
