Hey, I still *have* one of those crayon boxes...somewhere....
John thinking he might have had to quit hunting after the shtriga
And in particular, I'm thrilled that you picked up on this, because I've seen *many* responses to what John did or didn't do and think about the shtriga, but I don't recall reading anything in which anyone suggests that John had doubts afterward. And when it hit me that he must have done, that the incident had to have caused him one major freakout, beyond just immediately booking the boys out of the area...well, I knew I had to write it. And write about it. And...yeah, it was a huge revelation for me, and I feared from other comments that while people are taking in a lot of my "meta" within this piece, no one had yet hit upon that point. And for me, it's a major piece of the puzzle that is John Winchester.
As for the relationships, thanks again. I think I'd been writing in SPN just long enough to really get a handle on the dynamic, especially at this point in time--before Sam knows For Sure that yes, monsters exist, and before he and Dean have a major role to play, but well into the "routine" of Dean being the one who's largely there for Sam, and John still trying to balance Dad and Hunter and figure out how best to relate to each boy, but sometimes failing to see the simple solution.
Anyway...YAY, you liked it! Doing the happy dance over here....
