I like that John goes to Ellen and Bobby for advice. I almost think he was going to ask Ellen's advice on the boys, but then decided against it. Next stop...Bobby. And I think the conversation between Bobby and John sounded authentic.
Bobby is as much a wuss as John is. On one hand he admonishes "You’re sitting in a bar somewhere, plucking up the courage to punish them the way you should,procrastinating as usual, because when it comes to your kids, you’re a big wussy.” And then he reminds John that Dean is eleven and how many mistakes he made at that age. Yeah, he is a pushover.
Anyway. I loved this chapter, maybe more than any so far.
