Hm. I hadn't thought of a situation where John would have to play along into Sam and Dean's deception. I suppose there would be circumstances when that would be the prudent choice, but I honestly did plan for them to get caught from the time I outlined this.
And yeah, it's a little harsh, but John doesn't always have his priorities in the right order. And the boys aren't the only ones who need to decompress. I think, though, especially from Dean's and Sam's comments, that John consistently put the hunt ahead of the family, so to be true to that, rough as it is, I couldn't pull back from the sucker punch.
