I just assumed that the Trickster was doing the same thing to Sam that he does to other people. I mean, in Tall Tales he was all about teaching people a lesson- even if it was their last lesson. Really, he's just into punishing poetically. Kind of like Jigsaw in the Saw movies. Right?
