And yes, especially from Dean's comment in (is it Hookman?) where he accuses Sam of "holding out" on what college was like, at the frat party, I think he would initially like that kind of party. But I think even in the context of the sex/drug/alcohol culture, Dean stood outside the crowd. I really wanted to explore his knowledge of drug culture as someone who has no moral objection, but only very occasionally indulges. And I hope I got to the beginnings of that.
Also, I couldn't resist the contract idea, as well as the certainly that Dean would always come to rescue Sam (whether or not he really needed it).
