I'm glad about the Yorkshire - I thought maybe I should have had an odd "aught" or "nowt" but felt that might call too much attention to the language. I was trying to go for just enough without making it either totally incomprehensible *or* hammering out that Snape consciously worked on not being so Northern. I think Eileen was a little more middle-class in her speech, so she probably nipped some of his early habits in the bud, and being at school would have helped. But I really like junediamanti's suggestion that one summer he listened to BBC 4 constantly in order to smooth out his accent (and then got teased for changing himself).
