Made it home, driving through the nor'easter. Yeah, I know.
But really? It was...well, at times utterly terrifying, but otherwise fine. The Thruway and the Pike were both open, though parts of the Pike had been posted at 40 MPH, but my average speed was probably closer to 60 over the whole trip. The Thruway was terrible, as the plow situation was, well, not very good, so every time one had to change lanes or do anything, it was a struggle to keep from getting sidelined by the slush. I only stopped twice - Port Byron for the bathroom, and Mohawk for another bathroom break and also to get gas - and actually, getting off at Port Byron was one of the places I was most afraid I would spin out.
However, I did not, and all along the road, every 20-30 miles or so, there were visual reminders not to do anything stupid. So we went slow and steady, and my hands are very, very sore from gripping the wheel. I was literally afraid to take either hand off at any time, so my moments of one-handed driving were minimal: changing CDs, only a handful of sips of soda, until I got through the Berkshires and suddenly the weather was almost fine, comparatively speaking. The mountains SUCKED, but they always suck to go through in the weather.
I still have the rental car, but it's unloaded and cleaned out; I'll drop it off when they open (which I think is 7:00 AM) and go on to work from bringing it back. I don't think they'll charge me for any extra time - they can't rent it until they've checked it back in first thing, anyway.
I'm glad I went, but I'm glad I left Buffalo when I did, and I'm actually glad I insisted on leaving Rochester. Now I shan't miss work (Yay!) and really, apart from being a little harrying, it wasn't even a hellish long trip. It took 5 hours to get home *from work* during the big storm Thursday; it actually took only 7 hours to get from Rochester all the way back to Boston. That's only an hour longer than usual, altogether.
I have many, many journals to catch up on. I also need to shower, wash dishes, sort my mail, and generally get back on track. So forgive me if I don't leave my usual pithy comments.
Oh - and audition update: I was asked to play the "Dancer" instead of the Pirate. Apparently the music director just couldn't wrap his brain around cross-gender casting for this one. Sad! But whatever. I'll take the part and have fun with it. I just hope the person they did wind up casting is good - I know him, he's a great guy, but I've never seen him perform, even informally. Meh. World domination is yet another step away.
Next life? I'd like to go back to being male again. Just putting in the recycling request now, thanks.
ALSO: There will be fic this week. Gods, there will be fic. But I have a question for those of you who read my Supernatural stuff: should I post my spn_thur_nights exchange in chapters as a WIP or wait to post it all at once by the 1/31/08 deadline, even if it's a Christmas-themed request and I might not get it finished until after Christmas?
