Wibbling about posting something to a challenge....

Okay, so I've got this fic, "Five Times...Dean Didn't Get There in the Impala" and it's basically ready-to-go. I just haven't posted it yet.

Then I hear about this challenge being hosted on supernatural.tv.

Here's the salient points:

Write a short story about the Impala. You can write a story from Metallicar's perspective, when John bought the car, when Dean got the car, or any other thing related to the Impala. It can be funny, serious, sad...it's up to you.

Maximum Length: 10 pages or less, single-spaced in Word Check. The fic is only 5 pages long.

- Absolutely no spoilers for season 3 episodes that haven’t aired in the U.S. or Canada. If you include info. from a season 3 episode that has aired in the U.S., please include a notice for people who may not have seen season 3 yet. Check. It does have a little S3 reference, but easy enough to note that it's there.

- Must be PG-13 or lower and comply with all board rules Check.
- One entry per person Check.
- Must be new writing—can’t repost old stuff Check. I haven't posted it, therefore it's new.

So...the question here is really whether it's about the Impala enough. I mean... it's about instances when Dean had to get somewhere and didn't have or couldn't use the Impala to get there. In so doing, the fic kind of points out how important the car is to him (especially in the last bit), but it's more about what a hole it leaves when it's not there.

It's like a negative study: The absence of the thing makes the thing that much more important.

So here I whinge. Post and to heck with the consequences?

I'm revising the fic ever so slightly - actually this is good, because it'll wind up saying more of what I want to say, anyway.

Author’s Notes: I’ve had 1, 2, and 4 in my head for a while. Five sort of…happened. If there were a 6th, it would be the happiness of Sam bundling Dean onto a cruise ship to go to England for Led Zeppelin’s reunion concert. Heh. And I swear, I had Dean hyperventilating about being without the car before RSAM aired. However, I’m aware that it only counts as being Kripke’d if you’ve posted before it appears onscreen. Dangit. Anyway, I’ve been ready to post this for a bit, but when I heard about the supernatural.tv Impala challenge, I decided to brush it up and go for it. I’m aware that this is a little bit different, but I think the absence of the Impala in these vignettes goes a long way to demonstrating her presence in the Winchesters’ lives.
