It's all about meeeeeeee.
I know. I suck. I don't read LJ, and I don't ever update, but here I am, barging in, expecting you to read up on me.
Eh.
Well... gosh, a lot's happened since, um, the last time.
Wizard of Oz: OVER. Thank the gods. It went fine, in the end, and we apparently squeaked out a tiny bit of profit, but still. Really so not sorry to see the back of that production.
And the day of the second performance, I got wonderful news: My first leading role since moving to Boston. Some of you know this already.
So Boston-area peeps, listen up, Yo:
The What: Enchanted April
The Where: Arlington Friends of the Drama, 22 Academy Street in Arlington, MA
The When: June 9, 10, 16, 17 at 8:00 PM and June 11 and 18 at 4:00 PM
The Details: Tickets $15 each; order online at http://www.afdtheatre.org/ or call 781.646.5922
The WHY: Because I'm the LEAD, that's why!
What's it about? It's a play about 4 unacquainted English women in 1922, who rent a castle in Livorno, Italy, for the month of April. The experience changes their lives and relationships. It's funny and sweet and has been called a "chick-flick on stage." It's appropriate for ages about 8 and up.
Oh. And I blew my back out again, the weekend of Coronation. Some of you know this already, too. Brighton Campus Chiropractors (bless them!) saw me while I was in Rochester, mostly put me back together, at least enough to get to Pittsburgh and then home, and I'm in the process of getting referred to a chiropractor up here for maintenance.
And there was that one other thing that happened at Coronation. I'm still not quite adjusted to the reality of it. The crown, in their crack-smoking-induced folly*, saw fit to make me a Court Baroness. I say that half in jest - for while I admit that I've felt for a while like I've been working for a long time, and maybe a Millrind or something might be appropriate, I also felt that the window of opportunity had passed and that recognition, if it were coming, would have already happened. So it was a very humbling, wonderful surprise.
For those of you not in the SCA, this is a very good thing. It's an elevation of title, because I already have a Grant of Arms, but I'm now addressed as "Your Excellency" instead of "Your Ladyship." And most importantly, there's a spiffy hat. And a super-spiffy scroll that Roana and Hrefna and Ekat all worked on, which is at the custom frame shop as we speak.
Here we have a difference in tactic between my parents, too. I called my mother and she said: "Who needs a Laurel!?" I called my father and he said: "Now, how does this compare to a Laurel?"
Thanks, Dad.
Other SCA: Pennsic is coming along.... the blurbs are almost ready. In fact, I plan to send them to the book team at the end of this week. Then I have to start actively seeking helpers, yay. And thinking about the lights. And Marian is going to send me (and Tim?) contact information for the Amphisbaena concert folk from last year, as we are organizing the concert this year. I'm looking forward to that.
Job front: I'm still looking, in a desultory way, for something else. The boss-lady is still fucking impossible and it's driving me crazy. While I am doing reasonably well, I think, at not really caring whether our work actually comes to anything or not, it's nevertheless frustrating to watch her almost systematically torpedo every good thing we do in her constant quest for self-aggrandizement. Meh. Idon'tcareIdon'tcareIdon'tcare.
But, while my resume has been hanging about on Careerbuilder for a while, I actually got off my ass to put in applications today. Don't expect anything out of it, but applying is at least a step in the right direction. If I keep up at this rate I might find something by 2010.
