And yeah, it was important to me that there be a lot of contrast to "after" - as much as my "after" is still a progression for John, I think there was a definite difference even from the very start. There has to be. But there's still a good dad in there, so it should definitely show through when there was no threat to the family.
As for Mary...I'm getting to know her a little better now. Like I said, there's a patina of her influence even after her death, but she only recently started banging on my door to be heard. Maybe because we've been teased with finding out more about her and her family. One thing I do know is that she was no pushover!
Sigh. Well, I bet there's probably more John/Mary lurking in the back brain. I know there's a LOT more wee!chesters.
