I've never had fic compared to a toffee truffle before. Cool!
Yeah, that's why I was canvassing. I could still see her in a number of jobs, but I thought some sort of call center and/or dispatch job was appropriate. (Not anything connected to cops, firemen, or school, though - I didn't want that.)
This is only my second pre-fire fic, but of course, the spectre of their life Before is so much a part of After that there's inevitably some speculation that reflects back in any fic, especially wee!chester fic.
But because of that, I also really like playing with the contrast, especially John. I loved deciding that he'd been a somewhat indulgent parent to Dean before Mary died...because I think some vestiges of that can be argued to have held out in his early treatment of Sam.
