WTF, National Census?

I just received a notice of termination from the Census. Their reason? Lack of work.

Hello? You never SCHEDULED me to work, you fuckwits! How am I supposed to report for work if you never TELL me when you want me to come in?

I mean. Okay. The job was shit. But it would have been a little tiny bit of income. It might have helped extend my unemployment benefits a couple weeks here and there. And plus? I've never been "terminated" from a job in my life. Bastards.

On the bright side, my landlord just brought up the A/C unit!! So I will have a cooled-off bedroom by bedtime! W00T.

Sorry, wot?

Is there anyone who's tried to work for the Census and had a positive experience? I've only heard bizarre stories of dysfunctional management.

it's true - and technically the reason is "lack of work" which could mean that they simply hired more people than they needed (though I really do suspect it had to do with my immediate request / demand that I get this coming week off)... but still. Jeebus.

How are you feeling?

You weren't fired -- they are saying that there is nothing for you to do. That's the exact wording that I had to put on the unemployment forms for my nanny when Ian started school.

Word.

And, yeah. Still bleurgh. But I read a lot, knitted some (long project with deadline nearing), napped, watched footie and then "The Doctor's Daughter," so not a bad day. It just came with all over aches and a jackhammer in my skull.

I agree with Byron- they're just saying there's no work left. Apparently everybody on the Census payroll is getting laid off- that's the cause in the big drop in national employment statistics last month.

Yep -- "lack of work" means lack of stuff to give you to work on, on their part. Very different from "no show, no call, no job," which would be an attendance issue. So if you actually made it onto their payroll in terms of completing all the HR paperwork, you might still theoretically be able to claim it for unemployment.
