Cool...

I woke up at 4:30 this morning when the storm front came in and there was a message light on the Sidekick.

To tell me about this:

Mother's Day was named a Supernatural Fanfiction Awards Featured Story for June (don't ask; they're apparently a little behind).

Isn't the photomanip pretty? Tells you what you need to know.

What a neat surprise.

See? I knew that story was made of awesome. :-)

Congratulations! *HUGS!*

Thanks... I was trying to think of a "tactful" way to say that we should *celebrate* your birthday more often, if this is the result (not, y'know, that you should grow a year older more frequently!).

The totally ironic thing for me is...look at the rest of my fics. Right? This is the shortest, the closest to flash fiction, the least "crafted" thing I think I've posted.

Not that I'm not pleased with it (and more importantly, that you're pleased with it!) - not that I'm not proud and flattered by the acknowledgment - because yes, totally, those things are true!

Just...I dunno. I'm amused, because I can never tell what's going to "sell" and what's just going to sit there. I mean, I've never had an SPN fic go to a second page of comments!

And it's down to you. I had the concept, but when I thought about the whole "birthday" question it gave me that tie-in, that reason for John to have stumbled back in the middle of the night after a bender, because he just can't *not* come home as soon as he's able (whether or not it was a good idea for him to drive/do so).

Still...jeez. It took half an hour to conceive and draft in my head, an hour to type (using my thumbs!) and a tense five minutes where I held my breath hoping the Sidekick wouldn't crap out while posting it.... and it's utterly unbeta'd, practically uncensored.

Perhaps I should write off the cuff more often!

I usually find that the ones that come out "off the cuff," with very little labor involved - that just seem to be channeled from somewhere, are usually the most successful ones. I think the lack of *effort* shows - that the story simply comes from a place inside you that's honest, rather than being something you crafted with perhaps a bit too much scrutiny. So yeah, I get it that this got a lot of attention. No mystery at all.

And congratulations, BTW. That was a nice surprise.

LOL, well, we could celebrate my birthday any time and for as long as we want. It don't have to mean I'm actually any older. *G*

But I know what you mean. There've been times when I've written something in which I've groomed and agonised over almost every word ... and the reader response is sort of "meh." Then again I'll dash something off and post it with a shrug - and people fall all over the darned thing!

It's sort of crazy-making, ennit? :-s

Anyhow, I'm very glad to've been the vehicle of or spark to your creativity, lol! Maybe off the cuff *is* good for us. Should we have a "cuff-off" amongst our flisties, and see what we can come up with in 30 after seeing a prompt? LOL!

Thank you again for such a terrific prezzie! :-)
