I figured there had to be some information exchanged, and I had both his speech in AHBLII and the stuff in "Fresh Blood" and "Supernatural Christmas" with my personal canon that yes, he did tell Sam something--he had to have done. But I think it makes perfect sense that it was a touchy subject and that Dean was stingy with what he did share.
