Yes, after all the angst of the last couple episodes this season, I think brain has needed some sunnier moments.

But there is always that edge, because the contrast is so stark. And really, the "better" John is as a parent, the harder the change in him hits.

I will say that I think there's evidence that John was an indulgent parent, if nothing else in the little ways he extended that to Sam later on.
